Transit Maps is an offline viewer for very large images. It can download maps and other large image files in PDF, PNG, JPG, and GIF format from the Internet. It is very fast at displaying complex images and it works when network access is unavailable because it slices and saves the image tiles on the device.
It comes with a sample map of the Philadelphia rail system, but you can delete it and add any maps downloadable on the Internet via the built-in web browser. Only the first page of PDF files will be saved.
This app and the included Philadelphia Rail System map are by Lucius Kwok. Made in NYC.

All the maps I needed except Pittsburgh downloaded fine. For free this is an amazing app! Thank you!
It works really well, the only problem Ive had is that on irregularly-shaped maps it sometimes prevents one from seeing some parts near the edge.
At its core this app solves one simple problem but it does it very well. This app allows you to load up any complex PDF or large image and it then turns them into a image that you can quickly and smoothy zoom into and move around in. The first time you upload a file it takes a bit to process but after that it is wonderfully responsive. This is great for maps but it could easily be any other image you need to reference often.
Some bad moments
The links are outdated and there is no way to save the new pdfs with this app!!! If I wanted to connect to the Internet to find the transit map, why wouldnt I just use Safari?! Allow SAVE(upload) of MULTIPLE maps and weve got a winner!!!
When you use a uploaded map, it auto adjust back towards the center of the map. They need to fix this to allow you to be able to go to the edge of the map and see whats there because some maps have more than just the roots.
This would be a great app if the damn Map would load !!! Fix please ....
I am so happy this app is here. I use it regularly. What would be nice, however, is saving more than one page of a pdf!
Worked perfectly out the gate as described. I had no problems adding maps. Took less than a minute. Renders beautifully.
It cannot handle my maps, around 350 Meg png file. It crashes after 12% of downloading. Maybe some more advances read would help, or some pc/mac preprocessor?
