Transit Maps App Reviews

Great app for offline navigation

A MUST HAVE FOR IPOD TOUCH USERS!! This app runs very effeciently and is very stable. Being able to enter a web address to load almost any map in multple image formats is great. I have deleted most of the default maps and just load the .pdf files from the public transportation agency in the area Im interested in. Being able to load multiple page files would be nice but breaking the files up into single pages works too. Thanks for making this a free app! Update/request: an awesome feature would be a way of including GPS location information on maps. Perhaps having users creating a known point and using that to orient the rest of the map? Thanks for the nice product!

Cmon, son! This is great at what it does!

While the suggestions others have posted in their reviews would definitely be most welcome, this app is definitely good at what it purports to do: viewing gigantic one-page PDF transit maps. Lets take my homebrew transit map of Louisville for example. Edited in Inkscape, simple export to PDF, about 3MB in size. iBooks takes forever to load that thing, and when you zoom in, it takes forever again to re-render it. When you import a PDF into this thing, it takes a while to process it, but that is a one-time operation. Once thats done, select the map, and bam, its right there. Zoom in, and bam, youre zoomed in.

Exactly what Im looking for

Light uncluttered fast PDF map viewer. Only major complaint is inability to see past the 1st page. Fix that and u get another gold star. Thanks for your work on the app!

Just what I was looking for

Great simple app that does exactly what its intended to do. I like how you dont have to pay for new maps.

Simply doesnt work. Crashes

Tried downloading Londons tube map and the app crashes immediately after the prompt that asks if you want to save. Paris link didnt work... quick install.....quick delete

More than just maps...

My first review after nearly a year of iOS and many dozen apps: this one is simple, powerful, free (not ad supported), and, as the developer says in the description, good for much more than just maps. Im very glad I found it.

Go paperless!

I love this app! Now I can look at bus routes and schedules in a paperless manner!

Rocks my socks

Love it. It is my favorite app.

Brilliant!

This app is awesome. Not only is it extremely useful for transit agencies which are behind the times and dont have good smartphone apps or sites (Memphis, TN Im looking at you!) - but this also works awesome for theme parks, zoos, national parks or campgrounds, or any other map (or image) that you want to easily scroll and zoom!!!

Must have!!

You can download any map from any link and can take a look at them from anywhere cause its stored on your phone! Brilliant! Will save me lots of headaches when I travel.

Need to update links

Too many links are out of date. When a dead link is found, you have to go search for the map manually in Safari, then copy/paste the url back into this app. Get Maplets instead.

Great way to download maps

This app allows you to download maps through URL. I stored a couple biking path maps made by the city. Wonderful.

Great way to keep offline maps

Transit Maps is my go to app for keeping offline maps on my iDevices. It is not a fancy app, but does its job well and makes zooming in and out (even for complex PDFs) a breeze. There are a few features Id love for it to have (such as some way to put a location dot on a map), but overall I have been very satisfied with this app for the many years I have been using it.

Why?

App works well. But, why is this necessary? I think one could simply download a map and save it to iBooks to use for offline viewing.

All your maps in one place

This app downloads a PDF (single page) of a map (or any PDF document) and converts it into quicker to load JPG tiles. However, if the PDF is a small size originally, the quality of the image can suffer when zoomed as jpg. Additionally, some colors, in particular greens, are off upon conversion (becoming neon). Still, a useful and fast offline map storage app.

Great PDF Handling

For those wondering about the purpose of this app, for me its about the PDF handling. Aside from the convenience of having a single place for all my bus maps, this app performs some kind of processing of the PDF that allows the users to open large maps quickly and zoom in and move around without too much lag, especially on my devices. It might be a niche app, especially if you dont reference a set of maps very often. I live in NYC and have bus maps for all boroughs and use them often. So this app is very handy for me.

Love this app

Does what is needed in a cheap and effective way. Why buy a million map apps for every city when you can just go grab a jpg map off the internet thats exactly the one you need.

Very convenient

Never had a problem with it. Very simple and easy to use and a great offline pdf holder for my maps

Waste of time

All this app does is allow you to download a PDFS from a transit site. I downloaded the map for Paris. When I zoom into the edge of the map, the image jumps back to the center, making it impossible to scroll around at a large size. Ill stick with Acrobat Reader. This app is useless.

Great apps

Convenient way to download transit maps of many cites.
